As a child I have always dreamed of owning my own restaurant. It was just something I've always wanted to do. When I was young my parents would let me make hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. Nine times out of ten they looked more like hockey pucks, but my parents would assure me it was the best meal they ever had. Shortly after I became known as the "grill master." I started grilling for my friends and family any time we were together. It didn't take long for my friends to get tired of eating burgers and steaks, so I took a trip to my local hardware store and picked up a $99 smoker. It was a long process learning to smoke meats, I couldn't quite get it right. I picked up a couple books and studied fire, smoke, airflow, temperature, and what it all does to the meat. The recipes finally started coming together. My friends loved coming to try ribs, pork, etc. with the different sauces I would make. I really started getting the hang of it. With all the positive feedback I was getting, I decided to start Smoking Grate BBQ. I built a smoker out of a 250 gal propane tank and welded it to a trailer so I can bring it around to events. I applied for every event and tried to get as many catering jobs as I could. There were nights I would set my alarm every hour as I slept in my truck that was parked in the driveway, just to throw another log on the fire. Every pit master knows what I am talking about. The word was getting around and Smoking Grate quickly started getting a name for itself. Today we have served thousands of happy customers. I currently operate a food truck but will be getting a permanent location very soon.
